Mackenzie King estate ruins

May 4, 2002, Gabrielle Taylor. Mackenzie King, who clocked record 21 years as prime minister of Canada, collected parts of Ottawa mansions that were being demolished. He intended to merge the pieces into a study or library at his cottage in the Gatineau Hills but ultimately decided to leave them free-standing. In the 1950s he donated this property to the nation. His house is now a marvellous little tearoom, open from mid-spring to early autumn.
