History
The history of the Avatar of the Shadows is clouded in mystery. Brought forth into the world as a human by the name of Kauri Savina, she left a trail of legacy wherever she appeared. She began her life as a humble healer of the Divine Muse, later obtaining the position of High Priestess. Soon after discovering her innate abilities she dropped her guise and grasped her destiny as the Avatar of the Shadows and the Angel of Darkness. Many titles cling to her name, some spat from a bitter tongue, others praised by song: Kauri Savina, Angel of the Mists, Child Thief, Flayer of Minds, Seer of the Eternity's Eye. Her true nature is a total mystery, of which only a select few of her students have ever been blessed with. In doing so, she has eternally enshrouded herself in intrigue.
Kauri is worshipped as the Avatar of the Shadows. At a most basic level, she is a protector of the dark hours, but in a more esoteric sense, she is seen as a patron of illusions, deception, and shadows.
Powers
Some believe she can hear all that is spoken within the shadows and do not speak ill of her during times of twilight, for fear of losing their tongues (or worse). All that is known for sure is that Kauri seldom makes an appearance without inciting some form of chaos. It is also known that those who walk the Shadows are also blessed with the ability to command the shadows to some degree, calling upon Kauri to protect them in their times of need. At what cost they have bargained with the Avatar to earn this power is unknown to outsiders.
The path of the Shadows is one of ancient secrets, mysteries, and unheralded power. The sacrifice made by those who seek for answers within the Shadows is heard to be an immense one, but the rewards are equal if not better in return.
Types of Followers
The skulking, the unscrupulous, and the greedy see her as a saint, as do the simple, innocent and pure. Most of those who walk in the Light, have shunned her teachings. Typical followers of Kauri are rogues and mages; those who use means other than violence to get what they want. Many see it as a mark of pride that a goddess in the guise of their own walks the Immortal Realms once again, paying homage to Kauri as their patron.
Symbol
Those who devote to the shadowed path bear the mysterious burnished silver eyes, proudly announcing the blessing of Kauri, the Angel of Darkness. Those who have received the full blessing of the Avatar, bear storm-filled eyes encircled with silver, marking them as those who have learned and mastered her ways.
